2nd Grade Science

Sand, Gravel and Pebbles
We are studying how smaller rocks come from the breakage and weathering of larger rocks by separating rock mixtures with screens.  This simulates some of the processes that separate rock particles in the natural world by shaking, blowing, sifting, and mixing pebbles, gravel, sand, and silt.

Josiah and Kya sift their rocks.

Imani's rocks are sorted, she loves science!

Acacia is focused!

We are using screens to sift rocks into categories.

Yesenia and Cash are working together!

Here are our sifted materials:  sand, small gravel, large gravel, small pebbles and large pebbles.
