Earth Science in the Garden!

We are so excited to learn about plant and animal life cycles, and patterns in plants and animals.  We started our new unit on Earth Science by taking a field trip to the WHES garden to observe the many kinds of life in the garden.

First we observed in the garden.

The buddleia attracts pollinators, especially butterflies!

The jasmine arbor is in bloom!

The peach tree has flowered!

The lemons are really flavorful!

The peppers are fiery hot!

This is a type of bean . . . .

. . .with super big pods!

Sweet peas!

Raspberries!

Banana, banana!

Not sure, anyone know out there?

A pollinator, a little ladybug!

Not sure, anyone know?

We got lots of . . . .

collard greens!

The potato vine.

Next, we got a chance to use our senses to observe the plants up close.

Then we wrote a main idea sentence:
In the morning, all of first grade went to the school garden to observe plants.

Last we labeled all the plants to learn their names.
