Patterns in Art

We just completed our last project of the
2016-2017 School Year!  Check out the fabulous art the students created!

First we read the book, I See A Pattern Here, by Bruce Goldstone

Then we used The Calm Coloring Book to find the patterns to use  and color for the art lesson.

We all painted the negative space in our pictures.

Our resident artist,  Mrs. Goodman helped the students with their color choices during the watercolor painting phase of the lesson.
Here are our final products!
The pops of red in this picture moves your eye around the pattern.

This one reminds me of Andy Warhol.

I thought the red seeds were really good color and pattern choices.

The color choices really speak to me.

We studied the book, I Spy Colors in Art by Lucy Micklethwait, to get ideas about how the use of color enhances a painting.
This is very Keith Haring.

I really like how the yellow flower pops on the blue background!  Very French, this painting!

After we finished coloring our pictures with colored pencils, we painted the negative space with a sponge and watercolor paint.

For inspiration, we really loved this book about Picasso and Matisse!  Thank you Mr. Lander and Miss Cindy for picking the art books for us.

I thought the green part of the heart really made the heart pop!

This is a great book to use to learn about
positive and negative space.

This one is really detailed and intricate in the execution of the pattern color choices.

This painting has really beautiful color choices!

I just loved the purple iris!

Well done boys and girls!
