The Hummingbird

The Hummingbird

There once was a very confused hummingbird who flew into a first grade classroom.  There were screams and the hummingbird flew from one side of the room to the other, but couldn't find a way out!  He called, "help me, I'm trapped!"   Then the lights went out.

The hummingbird found a tall perch and looked around.  He was trapped in the huge cave.  He flew from side to side.  Landing here and there.  He looked down and saw 24 giants staring at him.

He flew faster and faster, searching for the doorway until his wings gave out and he plunged down.

Into soft hair and immediately, he felt safe.  He could feel a heartbeat and nestled in a boy giant's hair.

The giant didn't move.  The hummingbird felt someone trying to move him from his safe spot.  He clenched his talons tight and closed his eyes, knowing he should not let go.

Suddenly the hummingbird felt the warm sun on his feathers.  He opened his eyes a crack, but was so exhausted that he couldn't fly away.

Two hands gently cradled him.   The hummingbird opened his eyes and saw the boy, whose courage had saved his life quietly walk away.  The hummingbird waited for his strength to return but all he could do was open his eyes.  He could not fly!
The two hands laid him next to a purple lavender bush.   The sweet smell revived him.  He plunged his beak into the nectar and drank deeply.  The boy and girl giants waited while the hummingbird gathered his strength, and they watched him fly back home.
