Here are the science standards we learned in the Make It Balance experiment:
- Create and use representational models to demonstrate stable balanced systems.
- Communicate observations and compare stability and motion, using precise vocabulary.
- Analyze and interpret observational data.
Equipment List:
Cardboard hand, clothespin(s), flexible wires, and pencils.
WE ARE SCIENTISTS!
I can balance my item using a counterweight. |
You have to put the clothespin in just the right place to find an objects balance point. |
It's so exciting when I get it right! |
I found the center of gravity by balancing my cardboard pencil. |
We all got it now! |
The new balance challenge: Can you balance your pencil using a wire, two clothespins and a pencil? |
I used counterweights. |
Sometimes the pencil really leans out until it finds its balance point. Kind of like a surfer leaning to stay on his board, while riding a wave. Its all science! |
We got it! |

Josiah's favorite subject is Science! |
I can balance the pencil on my foot! |

This is my "I got it" face! Go Cash! |
